Chilango Manchester Review

Don’t you just love Mexican food?! Mexican is one of my go to cuisines when going out because they are usually great for veggie options. They normally have plenty of choice with different types of beans and rice with fried vegetables and of course can’t forget the guacamole! Most Mexican options can be made vegan too by taking out the sour cream and cheese. Chilango is a Mexican chain which is mostly based in London but they are creeping into other cities such as Manchester. When I first visited Manchester a year ago, I was really intrigued when I walked past this place. It seemed really vibrant and I thought the Mexican wrestler theme was really trendy. That’s why I insisted to my boyfriend that we have to go and see what it’s all about. It was actually one of the first places I tried in Manchester! I have really good memories of their food and remember being impressed with the quality of food for the low price. So of course one year later, I had to go back and give it a review for you guys so I can tell you all my thoughts and opinions.

Me and my boyfriend decided to share a burrito with medium salsa and a hot box which is essentially a burrito but without the tortilla with mild salsa. The veggie options include black beans, fried peppers and onions, rice, guacamole, lettuce, sour cream and cheese.

They also have a vegan sweet potato box which would have been interesting to try. One thing I love about Mexican food is how fresh it can feel and Chilangos did not disappoint in how fresh and vibrant all their ingredients felt. It felt as if they used good quality ingredients with a good blend of herbs and spices.

The black beans certainly had the most depth of flavour and gave a warming feel to the dishes. The guacamole and salsa helped lift the dishes. The mild salsa was fresh but didn’t have any spice (as expected) and the medium salsa did have a kick (more than I was expecting) but didn’t over-power the dish like some spice can. Even though all the toppings were the same for veggies (apart from the salsa) there were plenty of different bases to choice from which made it feel like they had a lot of variety.

Overall, I think Chilangos is a great heartier and healthier option for street fast-food. I certainly found this food really filling and felt like I was having a proper meal. It is reasonably priced and recommend Chilangos for students as they offer a 21% discount for students. Their portions are very generous as we just had ‘regular’ portions and still had some left to take home!

Let me know if you check out Chilangos and leave your thoughts in the comments below. Also Happy #NationalVegetarianWeek! If you’re veggie already why don’t you use this week as an excuse to treat yourself and if your not veggie why not try going veggie for the week to see how you feel! Every step helps!

Hope you enjoy my blog post and will speak to you soon!
