So it’s about time that lidl joined the band wagon of supermarkets bringing out their own range of dairy-free yogurts! With Alpro leading the way and then supermarkets like Tesco and Asda bringing out their own versions, it’s nice to see that a more budget supermarket like lidl has brought it’s own one out too. They have released three flavours which are all coconut based including original, strawberry and coconut and mango and coconut. I decided to try the strawberry and coconut as I thought this was the most staple out of the lot and be the most popular choice that people would want to try. Although (spoiler alert!) after trying the strawberry version I definitely want to try the mango one too!
First of all I would like to mention the price of these pots. I paid £1.05 for a pack of two which to me seemed quite expensive as that means each pot costs over 50p. This being said they are quite big portions so I would maybe rather have four smaller yogurts for the price to feel like I’m getting more for my money.
Now for the taste! I was surprised when I opened the pot to find that the strawberry compote was separate and hadn’t been mixed in throughout however I thought this was a nice touch and reminded me of “muller-style” yogurts which I haven’t seen much in vegan alternatives. It also meant that there were chunks of strawberry throughout which added a nice texture. I thought the flavour and texture was very creamy and surprisingly didn’t taste too strong of coconut. I could sense a hint of coconut which was a nice addition but the main flavour and star of the show was defiantly strawberry.
Overall these yogurts had a very upmarket feel so maybe hence why they had a higher price. I think these tasted delicious and both my mum and boyfriend who tried them said they couldn’t tell they were dairy-free. I think these would be a great addition for lunch boxes and for breakfast however you would have to use sparingly as you only get the two! So well done lidl for joining the dairy-free yogurt trend and for creating a delicious treat!
